Planning for the Future

New fields of study and state-of-the art technologies require a thorough review of how the three centuries-old Harvard campus functions. New construction, historic preservation, renovation and adaptive reuse of existing buildings are undertaken creatively to shape a vibrant campus community supporting world-class academic innovation. Harvard is continually evolving to integrate the needs of students, faculty, and the university as a whole, while fully recognizing the uniqueness and beauty of the campus.

Harvard is committed to maintaining ongoing communication and cooperation as project plans are shaped, respecting the historic character of its buildings while recognizing contemporary developments in design, using world-class architects in the design of projects, creating more open space, limiting traffic congestion, concealing parking facilities and building in proportion to the human scale.
